OUR HISTORY
Established by Forward Thinking Visionaries
Tunnell Consulting was founded in 1962 during a time of rapid economic expansion. A core group of forward-thinking experts provided consulting services for strategic planning, manufacturing and industrial engineering, and Total Quality Management (TQM) projects. Serving a wide range of clients, from transportation to life sciences, they formed the foundation of what is today’s Tunnell Consulting.
Technical Support and Process Improvement
Tunnell recognized a growing need for technical support and process improvement. In response, Tunnell developed Six-Sigma capabilities which – along with operational excellence, Lean tools and proprietary methodologies – are still at the core of the business.
Employee Stock Ownership Plan
Tunnell became an ESOP when Ken Tunnell sold the company to the employees.
Focusing Exclusively on the Life Sciences
Over the years, Tunnell’s client base of life sciences companies grew and in 2000 a strategic decision was made to focus exclusively on the life sciences industry. Tunnell applied its deep industry knowledge and breadth of experience in technical, quality/compliance/regulatory, manufacturing and operational improvement services across the entire life sciences spectrum including pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, vaccines and medical devices.
Consulting in Key Federal Government Segments
Extensive capabilities in life sciences led Tunnell into consulting within the critical life sciences and biomedical R&D segments of the Federal Government. As pandemic disease preparedness and bioterrorism became critical issues, Tunnell began to increase its work with the DHHS, DOD and other federal agencies, forming our Government Services subsidiary.

BENEFITS
The ESOP is a defined contribution plan with annual employer contributions made to the plan on behalf of each employee. Tunnell is one of the oldest Employee Stock Ownership companies in the country! The value to our employees is that as the company grows financially, so does the financial nest egg of each employee. As an ESOP member, you will be an owner of the company and can see the direct impact of your work on the value of our stock.
We offer a rich dental plan that includes coverage for basic and major services, with both in-network and out-of-network benefits.
We offer a company- and employee-funded HSA to provide employees and their dependents with additional funds to cover co-pays, medical, dental and vision care fees etc., not covered by our medical plan.
Our company-funded HRA is also available to employees who decline medical coverage with Tunnell.
In addition to our ESOP, employees are eligible to participate in our 401(k) savings plan, allowing them to save additional funds for their future.
Our employees enjoy an attractive vacation benefit that increases with length of service, as well as paid sick time and a generous slate of paid holidays. Tunnell also offers extended leaves of absence, including paid parental leave. Employees are eligible for extended time off for their own illness, adoption, family care, maternity, medical conditions, military, jury, bereavement, or parental care.
